Anyone who has ever loaded up Google Maps to find their way to a destination across town knows that navigating through a city can feel like trying to find your way through a maze! At Dirt Alley Design, I turn that idea on its head by transforming iconic city grids into actual puzzle mazes.
The inspiration for my city maze map posters came while watching Mike Bostock’s Visualizing Algorithms talk on maze generating algorithms at the 2014 Eyeo Festival. I launched Dirt Alley Design in December of 2016 with city maze map posters of San Francisco, California and Brooklyn, New York.
